this is a german WWII shell given a premium liner and chinstrap and a color match paint job off of an original. It has been naturally distressed thru use. This is a great "one and done helmet" that has the look, and is as accurate as a high priced recreation. This saw many hours in the field and has a natural look. Good for display or use. Original and most excellent early WWII U.S. GI issue M1 fixed bale Combat Helmet and Hood Rubber Co. Liner. This helmet is an example of an original circa 1942 fixed bale, front seam, sewn on chinstraps. The helmet shell show use and has a couple of minor dents and a few coats of old original OD paint remaining intact. Liner is of the very rare early WWII circa Hood Rubber Company low-pressure variety Liner. Liner is all intact, manufacturer marked on the crown "HR", has all of its khaki colored HBT webbing intact, though frayed, it all remains fastened behind their A-Frame metal fasteners. Liner also has intact its original early leather and HBT sweatband. Liner exterior has been repainted. If you are a collector who has been holding out for one nice original WWII US M1 Helmet for your collection, this early WWII fixed bale helmet and scarce liner would be a great one to have. The Hood Rubber Company, a subsidiary of the BF Goodrich Tire Company, was awarded a contract in April 1942 to manufacture M1 helmet liners. At that time, the War Department was in search of a replacement for the M1 Hawley Liner made of paper. The Hawley liners simply did not hold up to much use. The production method developed by Hood Rubber was a low pressure system which resulted in a different internal appearance than the high pressure liners made by Inland, Westinghouse, MSA, Firestone and Seaman. The interior of low pressure liners looks somewhat grainy and dirty compared to the smooth interior and sheen of the standard high pressure liner. Only 206,000 of these were made by Hood Rubber when production stopped in early 1944, making these the rarest of all helmet liners made in WWII.

Up for auction is a killer March 2000 dated Gentex HGU-55/P flight helmet in size Large. This is the highly desirable Carbon Fiber shell version. They also come in fiberglass and kevlar. The carbon fiber shell is well liked due to its lightness and flexility while still providing good protection. The shell is extremely clean with just a few imperfections here and there from light use. The leather edgeroll is beyond excellent and is thick and soft. The visor bump stops were carefully moved back on the shell at some point, but whomever did it took great care in his work. The helmet is the current type with integrated chin and nape straps and its totally complete with all communications. The earphone elements are Air Force H-143's. The helmet has the newest Gentex X-Liner, which is a lightweight, breathable liner that is composed primarily of memory foam that just melts to the shape of the wearers head. The liner is brand new, never worn. The helmet also has the black leather earcup cover upgrade! I had to use the flash the get a decent shot of the helmet's interior so please forgive the photo's brightness, but it does illustrate how truly nice and clean this one is! This is an extremely comfortable helmet, about as comfortable as they can get. You can really see how long duration missions are not only possible, but common with this type of equipment! The helmet comes with a neutral(tinted) visor in unissued condition along with its original gray leather chamois lined visor cover. The helmet is also equipped with lightweight bayonet receivers. The shell is drilled so as to allow the bayonet receivers to be installed with 20-30 degrees of adjustability before being tightened at the chosen angle. The oxygen mask is the newest Gentex MBU-20A/P and is dated 3rd quarter of 2011 - factory fresh! Its totally complete with the newest M169 microphone and coiled CX-4707 communications cord. The mask is a size Large-Wide and is extremely comfortable. These newer masks are a vast improvement over previous masks, with much better sealing abilities, a lower profile, far greater comfort and very little effort needed to inhale and exhale. Up for bid is an authentic WWII American M1 helmet with it's original liner. As seen in the pictures the rim seam is in the front which denotes 1940's manufacture. The brass chin strap also is WWII. I have seen similar helmets marked like this in European Theater of Operations. Both helmet and liner are in great condition. I purchased the helmet from the original owner WWII Vet. Great piece of history, don't miss out on this one. It weighs 3 pounds.

HELMET NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION This is a German WWI stirnpanzer, which does not have a maker's mark; however, many were not marked. I do not know if this is a copy or original; therefore, I am listing it at a repro starting price of $9.99, and am selling as is. Like originals, which were made of high quality steel, this does have a slight bell like chime when you tap the edges of the plate. Does appear to have the correct field green paint underneath, which matches that of the helmet used in the photos. The strap is old and riveted, but is not correct. The plate fits nicely on the helmet and rest flush on the bottom as originals should, all of the weight is not being held up by the lug nuts. Please pay within 7 days at close of auction.
