Original German 1916 Garde du Corps Helmet with crest, lining and chin strap Picture(s) and Description:

Original

Original German 1916 First Garde du Corps Regiment Helmet An all original 1916 model helmet of the First Garde du Corps Infantry Regiment or the First Garde Signals Battalion. Very rare original Hoenzollern crest, painted on the left side. These crests were worn late in the war by only two units: the First Garde Infantry Regiment and the First Garde Signals Battalion. Barely visible remains of a painted number (?) on the rear. For reference see "Haselgrove, MJ & Radovic, B: The History of the Steel Helmet in the First World War", Volume One, pages 243 and 305. Complete original liner (intact pad liners but missing the filling material). Original chinstrap, stamped with manufacturer's marking (Otto Koch & C, Berlin 1917). Marked "TJ" (C. Thiele & Sohn, a Lubeck manufacturer) and "66" (helmet size) on the left inner side of the shell. Many German helmets that appear on Ebay, as you all know, are either fake (many times advertised as original!) or messed with. Originals do appear, of course, but most of them are uncomplete or badly worn. Once in a while a good item, like this one, appears. If you want a great helmet for your WWI collection, bid on this one. You will not regret it!
